Friends of Barnegat Lightouse State Park
was chartered as a non-profit
organization in 2007.
In the organization's brief history, our accomplishments include the following:
- Purchased and installed 22-mile Coast Guard approved beacon
- Replaced the Lantern Room's windows
- On January 1, 2009 (150th Birthday), Barnegat Lighthouse was re-lighted as an official navigational aid
- Purchased a computer and portable P.A. system for our lecture series and added more chairs to accommodate larger audiences
- Re-lamped the Visitors Center with energy efficient bulbs
- Provided new TV and DVD for educational presentations
- Added 10 new picnic tables to the park
- Purchased and installed a new closed circuit TV and Intercom system in the lighthouse for increased security
- Beautified the Park with the new landscaping and sprinkler system in the front of the VisitorsCenter
- Provided new projection equipment for the lecture series
- Continued to maintain the beacon, clean the glass at the top of the tower twice a year, and provide for the maintenance of the gardens

Over 7,000 visitors witnessed the relighting of Old Barney on January 1, 2009--150 years to the date when the lighthouse was first lit.
